Transforming Creativity: Our New Children’s Art Studio is Here!

We are beyond excited to officially unveil the brand-new

Children’s Art Studio

 at

Halley House School

This incredible transformation was made possible thanks to a generous £10,000 grant from the Goldsmiths’ Centre, an organization dedicated to championing craftsmanship and the next generation of makers.

From Vision to Reality

As many of you know, our mission has always been to provide every child with a high-quality, sensory-rich arts education. However, to truly let creativity flourish, we needed a space that could adapt to our students' needs.

With this grant, we’ve completely reimagined our art room. Working alongside specialist furniture makers Rigg, our Lead Art Educator Kate Hodgson helped design a modular, flexible environment. The new studio now features:

  • Bespoke Modular Benches & Stools: These can be moved and shifted to create different workspaces, whether for solo projects or collaborative group builds.

  • Smart Storage Solutions: Keeping our vibrant range of materials organized and accessible to all 200 pupils.

  • A Sensory-Friendly Design: A bright, colourful space specifically tailored to support different learning styles and needs.

More Than Just a Classroom

This grant has unlocked a deeper partnership with the Goldsmiths’ Centre that goes far beyond the four walls of the studio. Our Year 5 students recently visited the Centre for hands-on sessions in their silversmithing workshop, designing everything from rings to football trophies! We also welcomed their professional training team to a school assembly to inspire our pupils with stories of careers in the jewellery industry.

Seeing the Impact

The impact of this new space is already visible in the incredible work our students are producing. If you follow Kate Hodgson (@artist_educator_) on Instagram, you’ve likely seen the energy and focus in the room. From intricate mark-making to large-scale 3D builds, the studio has become a "signal of what is possible when creativity is given space".

As our Headteacher, Toby Mills-Bishop, put it: "This grant helps us enrich and widen our artistic activities, providing more exciting opportunities for Hackney children".

A huge thank you to the Goldsmiths’ Centre for believing in our vision and helping us build a foundation where "making matters" for years to come.
